Geo Spectrum
Although subcompact cars appeared in the industry back in 1950's, it was not until in the era of 1970 when these vehicles were accorded with large recognition in the industry. There are certain geographical locations where this type of cars enjoyed and welcomed tremendous popularity, albeit, the fact that these vehicles are smaller than a family car and usually seat people of 2 to around 4 individuals only make these cars seem less practical than any other car type that has already established their practicality and functionality in the automotive industry.
Nevertheless, this fact did not discourage auto manufacturers from producing similar vehicles and instead inspired them to emulate the first subcompact car models that were introduced into the public car showrooms. Subcompact cars' participation in the industry took on with surprisingly major impact in the industry that a lot of automakers made it apparent that these cars are going to take more contribution into the automotive history.
True enough, a stream of subcompact cars was laid out in front of the hopeful eyes of different automotive enthusiasts hoping to catch one that could satisfy their fancy. One of the auto marques that gave interest to manufacturing subcompact cars was Geo. Geo vehicles were marketed with General Motors behind in 1989 as the first model year. And although, Geo marque ended its reign in the industry in 1998 with GM's Chevrolet vehicle division absorbing the brand, Geo models remained to be one brand that has competed among other passenger vehicles.
One of the subcompact cars Geo carried into the market is the Geo Spectrum. It was one of the Geo cars that gave recognition to the brand itself. Geo Spectrum was actually sold for only one year, which was in 1989. It used the engine of Isuzu's I4 1.5-liter producing 70 horsepower. It has a standard 5-speed manual override transmission while the 3-speed automatic was an option. Geo Spectrum was available in two trim levels of 2- and 4-door bodies.
Although Geo Spectrum cars only survived appearance in the industry for one year, these cars have not in truth faded into oblivion. These cars' were only replaced in the company's lineup by Geo Prizm in 1990.
