Wise drivers check the condition of the vehicle and make sure that every system is properly operating before hitting the road. The purpose is to ensure safe travel. However, there are auto systems that don’t directly affect the components responsible of keeping the drive safe. Thus, some disregard them even if their condition is really in need of a mechanic. One of which is the intake manifold. Intake manifold also known as inlet manifold of the induction system is a network of passages that directs air or air-fuel mixture from the throttle body into the cylinder head, and into the combustion system.
In the operation of Geo intake manifold, the air and fuel mixture flows from the throttle body and taken into the chamber called plenum. And then the plenum will feed the components into tubes or runners which lead to the intake ports of the cylinder heads. In order to execute the process perfectly, the intake manifold must charge the cylinders with the same amount of strength and quality. And dry fuel is an ideal form of charge, but then can only be possible with the presence of high temperature. Knowing that heat-expanded fuel charge can reduce engine power, oil producers supply types of fuel that prevent such reaction. This conflict is resolved through reduction of fuel into a minimum amount by depositing some fuel on the walls of the cylinders and manifold vents.
Geo intake manifolds are available in various types. There are the tunnel ram, cross ram, open plenum, divided single plane, single plane with partial divider plate and isolated runner intake manifold. These intake manifolds carry different designs which also mean different locations. Geo models that carry V8 engines have their intake manifolds between the cylinder heads, while other units between the carburetor and cylinder head. In L-engines, the intake manifolds are installed at the side of the block, and bolted on cylinder heads with I-head engines. Their location also relatively affects their performances. And those that are equipped with multi-point injected engines also hold the fuel injectors.
