Ford Ranch Wagon
Wagon cars are one of the interesting car makes in the auto
industry. Its origin can be traced back in the train depots as hacks or
taxicabs as what we call it now. Their main function during that time
is to carry the train passengers together with their luggage and
packages from the depot to the desired locations of the occupants.
Later on, it evolved into station wagons with chassis borrowed from
other car makes. In the 1950s, the coming of the Ford Ranch wagon made
impressive mark in the industry which made it one of the top selling
station wagons during that time.
No one could really point out the exact date of the production
of the first station wagon but some auto historians said that 1923 is
the exact year when the first wagon was produced. They also stated that
Ford chassis was the first system used. The innovativeness of man
produced woody wagons before the coming of the official station covered
wagon makes. From 1923 until the 1950s, station wagons like Ford Ranch
were considered as commercial vehicles but the production was low until
after WWII. Yet sales reached new heights during the post war period.
New standard and optional features were added which changed the style,
looks and performance of station wagons.
It was in the 1960s when covered wagons reached the zenith of
its existence in the automotive world. Ford also produced new Station
wagon makes such as the Ford Falcon and Ford Comet compact wagons to go
along with the tight competition in the market. After the compact wagon
came the midsize Ford Fairlane wagon which spice up the wagon
competition. However the coming of other car makes like minivans and
trucks caused the decrease in sale of station wagons which later on
stopped the entire production. Nowadays, station wagons are once again
revved up equipped with the latest technological enhancements.
