Probably the Ford marque that has been used the most, this Ford car name has been used in three types of vehicle for different countries. The first one was a car that had started production in 1969 and lasted until 1977. The original design was a two-door sedan but over the years more models came out like the four-door version in 1971. Special models also came out such as the grabber, the Sprint, the LDO and the Stallion. The first Ford Maverick was a front engine, rear wheel drive compact car. They were sold in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Brazil.
The Ford Maverick was probably the only car from Ford, which topped the sales of the Ford Mustang that was released exactly five years before each other. Maverick's 1970 model year production totaled 579,000 units, 5,000 more than the '65 Mustang in a similar period of time. The Ford Maverick had a twin car that had the same specifications as it did this was the Ford Comet. Together they had sales that soared. But when Ford introduced the Ford Granada, which had the same platform as them, sales dwindled, and eventually the Ford maverick line was cut.
In other types of vehicle, the Ford Maverick nametag was used for an off-roader vehicle in Australia. This Ford maverick was based upon the Nissan Patrol GR and was sold from 1988 until 1998. In Europe, the nametag Ford Maverick was used again for a Sport Utility Vehicle that was based on the Nissan Terrano. It was produced in Spain and was sold in 1993 up to 2001. After that Europe once again had a taste of the Ford Maverick brand name, which was used as the name for the Ford Escape. Truly, the Ford Maverick marque has gone all over the world representing a fine class of vehicles.
