The Ford Granada was the name of two different cars that Ford produced in the 70’s. The first one was produced for the European market and had a very successful selling rate. It boasted of fine luxurious trimmings and a wide variety of accessories and options. Its wide body could easily fit fie large adults comfortably. Its interior was neat and very driver friendly as well as luxurious with the leather trims. The engine was powerful and could provide sudden bursts of speed and maintain it. This was a car that could compete with the best of them in its time.
1972 was the first year wherein the Ford Granada was sold in Europe. It was produced in two countries, Germany and UK. In 1976 all Ford Granada’s production was chiefly based in its Germany plant. In 1985 the Ford Granada was discontinued all over Europe, except in UK where it still lasted until 1994. The Ford Granada was the successor of the Ford Zephyr/Zodiac as Ford’s offering in the full-size sedan segment. They were the cars were available as two- and four-door sedans, a five-door station wagon and two-door fastback coupé. Initially, 1.6 liter and 2.0-liter engines, and the “Essex” V6 engine in 3.0 L format powered the Ford Granada. Eventually as engine technology progressed, the “Cologne” V6 engine in 2.3 liter and 2.8 liter replaced them.
In North America, the Ford Granada was released in 1975 but was of different body and engine from the European Ford Granada. It was a sibling of the Mercury Monarch because of the engineering and design similarities. Ford touted the Ford Granada as their rival for the Mercedes-Benz 280SE which had the same size as the Ford Granada. In 1980 the Ford Granada was given a smaller size and three production years later was dropped from the Ford lineup.
