Launched at the end of year 1967 as a British automobile to be an
additional collection of sub-compact cars from Ford Motor Company, Ford
Escort was seen with a conventional rear-wheel drive and a 4-speed
manual gearbox. At the time, Ford Escort Mk version was one of the
famous stylish cars (two-door and four-door saloon) because of its dog
bone shaped front grille, and angular or circular front headlights. In
1981, Ford Escort was tagged by Ford as the “The World Car” and was
geared towards the American market. An all-new Ford Escort sported
different version with full features of front-wheel drive, overhead
cam, independent suspension, 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine, and
rack-and-pinion steering.
Ford Escort vehicles were also available with choices in five trim
levels of Ford Escort L, Ford Escort GL, Ford Escort GLX, Ford Escort
SS, and Ford Escort base in two-door hatchback or a four-door wagon
bodies. The following year, Ford Escort was now available with a
four-door hatchback and it was this year when Ford Escort bagged the
prestigious award of America’s top-selling car for the year.
Ford Escort held its commitment to the industry by constant seeking of
various ways to re-design and apply innovative technologies to provide
consumers with first-rate vehicles and would provide them the
satisfaction they need with cars. To contend with the growing
competition in the same field of the automotive industry, each time
Ford Escort vehicles go out to the market these were equipped with
features better than its predecessors.
Ford expanded production in 1992 and released new four-door sedans in
addition to the collection that would be another hit with the
consumers. It was in 1997 when Ford Escort was seen with more
aerodynamic body and more improvements for the powertrain and its ride
quality. This time, models were trimmed down to only Ford Escort base
sedan, Ford Escort LX sedan, and the Ford Escort LX Wagon.
After almost four decades of manufacturing impeccable cars in the
lineup of Ford Escort, Ford decided to replace these lineup and
production finally went down to a halt in 2002.
