Ford Customline

Does the name Ford Customline sounds like a van to you? Well, we cannot blame you, as there are really a lot of Ford Econoline vans being customized today and renamed as the Ford Customline van. But there actually existed a vehicle manufactured directly by Ford that was named as the Ford Customline, and their appearance does not even go close to the Ford Customline vans we have today. Rather, the original Ford Customline vehicles manufactured by Ford were a range of full-size cars.

The original Ford Customline was manufactured and sold by Ford from 1952 to 1956, briefly replacing the Ford Custom range of full-size cars. It was introduced with two other vehicle model series, namely the Ford Crestline and the Ford Mainline. Upon introduction, the Ford Customline was available in four body styles cum trim levels: the 2-door Sedan, the 2-door club coupe, the 4-door Sedan, and the 4-door Country Squire Wagon. For the 1954 model year, the Ford Customline was also available in a 2-door Ranch Wagon body style and in 1956 in Victoria Hardtop Coupe trim.

Initially, the Ford Customline was equipped with a choice of either an OHV inline-type 6-cylinder engine or a flathead V8 engine. In 1954, however, the flathead V8 engine was dropped in favor of the new overhead valve (OHV) V8 engine that the company developed. Power outputs on all Ford Customline vehicles manufactured through the years ranged from a low of 101 bhp to a high of 225 bhp.

Today, you'll hardly find a Ford Customline vehicle in its original form. You can still find them, though, especially from serious vintage car collectors, but rarely without any original part replaced. Most of the Ford Customline you'll see today are either fully restored with aftermarket Ford Customline parts or beefed up with a lot of other high quality custom parts for other vehicles.
