One of the precursors of modern day SUV, the Ford Bronco signified what
a real SUV should be. Its big, its brawny, its powerful and its tough
looking. Ford first came out with the Ford Bronco in 1965. It was
initially produced to compete with the other major four by four and
off-roading machines of those days.
In the 1970’s it had a major facelift making it even bigger and
brawnier. Soon a Ford Bronco II entered the picture as a smaller
version. But in the onset of the 1990’s a new major redesigned Ford
Bronco based upon an all-new F-series design came in into the picture.
The Ford Bronco made its last run in 1986, the following year the Ford
Expedition became its successor and the Ford Bronco ended its
four-generation run.
The Ford Bronco enjoyed an icon status in its time, especially to those
who idolized big, strong, burly and muscular-looking vehicles. This
Ford vehicle never backed down on an off-roading challenge and had
enough power to triumph over its challenges. Its V8 engine provided it
with ample strength to maneuver over any obstacle on and off the road.
The Ford Bronco was an instant success, leaving behind other emerging
leisure four-wheel drive in the market with sales of 18, 200 units on
its entire first year of production.
Looking at the four generations of the Ford Bronco you will see how
much Sport Utility Vehicles have gone through. From very simple looking
exteriors came the many accessories and redesigns that made them more
and more sophisticated but still sporting the same tough look.
Underneath the hood, the engine just keeps on mutating to become better
and stronger. The interior has expanded from being a minimalist to what
it is today, luxurious and classy. Truly, the Ford Bronco has done its
share for the development and emergence of Sport Utility Vehicles.
