Since the dawn of Dodge in the DaimlerChrysler vehicle line-ups, many platforms have already been born. And Dodge full size van is among those which you cannot just set aside. Dodge Ram Wagon, Dodge Tradesman, Dodge Sportsman, and Dodge Sprinter are the full size vans that came under the Dodge brand. In their editions, increasingly powerful and well defined equipments were developed. Their evolution came with the transformation of automotive technology.

The Dodge Tradesman is a full size passenger van which possesses characteristics that are same as Dodge Sportsman’s. These two can only be distinguished through their passenger seating and side windows. Sportsman was initially marketed in 1970s as Plymouth Voyager, while the other one was introduced to the public as it is. Another Dodge full size van is the Dodge Ram Wagon. This one’s also a passenger van only that it originated from a commercial van design, and sold in three trims, the 1500, 2500, and 3500. After many years of running, the series of Dodge Ram Wagon were finally dropped in 2003 for a new platform, the Dodge Sprinter.

Dodge Sprinter is available in three trims, the Sprinter Cargo, Sprinter Passenger, and the Sprinter Cab Chassis. Cargo, derived from its name is a cargo van equipped only with front seats, thus passengers 12 years of age and below are not allowed from riding on. Sprinter Cargo has the capacity of 473 cubic feet of load area, 4824 payload, and 73-inch interior height when properly equipped. Sprinter passenger and cab chassis share some features including the premium 2.7-liter CDI turbo diesel engine and 4-wheel disc antilock brakes. Exclusive with Passenger is the standard air conditioner with automatic temperature control and 10-passenger seating, while dual cloth reclining bucket seats that include integral headrests and standard 16-inch wheels and tires are for the Cab Chassis version.

The turbo diesel engine works at its utmost capability when coupled with a 5-speed automatic transmission system and equipped with power assisted rack-and-pinion steering. It can provide 154 horsepower and 243 lb-ft with remarkable fuel economy. And since safety is most important, lots of safety equipments were included. There’s the ASR or Acceleration skid Control advanced traction control system, driver and front passenger air bags and seat belts with pretensioners, electronic brake distribution, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, electronic stability program, remote controlled central locking system, and child restraint system.
