Many people tend to associate a particular brand of automobile to a particular vehicle variant, and one of the usual victims of this false association is the Dodge brand. For many years, the Dodge brand has been known as a brand of trucks when actually, this DaimlerChrysler division also manufactures a number of outstanding cars. It is probably for this reason that the advertising efforts of Dodge in recent years was concentrated on promoting their new car variants, like the Dodge Charger, Dodge Viper, Dodge Stratus and others.
If there is an auto accessory that carries the same fate as the Dodge brand, it would definitely be the spoiler. Spoilers have always been regarded as a styling accessory made only for cars like sedans, coupes, convertibles and the like. This is probably because spoilers were originally designed to be used only on racing cars and sport cars. As aerodynamic devices, a spoiler is mounted at the rear end of a race car to alter the flow of air through its body. With the spoiler on, the lift and drag of the car is reduced while the downward force that pushes the tires towards the road surface is increased, thus allowing the vehicle to turn, brake and accelerate more aggressively.
For styling purposes, however, the use of spoilers is not limited to cars alone. In fact, there are spoilers specifically designed for trucks, vans, minivans, and SUVs. That is because spoilers does not only refer to the stylish rear spoilers, or wings, that we see on most sports cars. There are also spoilers installed on the front end of the car, called front spoilers or air dams. For trucks, there is the lid spoiler that is attached atop the truck lids of pickup trucks. And then for vans, minivans, SUVs, there's the roof spoiler or rear window spoiler that is attached to the very back of the roof, just above the rear window.
Dodge vehicles are not exclusively trucks, because there are also other great Dodge cars like the Dodge Neon, SRT4, Stratus, Viper, and Charger. Similarly, Dodge spoilers are not limited to the front and rear spoilers that can be installed in these Dodge cars. There are also Dodge rear spoilers for the Dodge Caravan, Durango and Sprinter as well as Dodge lid spoilers for the Dodge Dakota and Ram Track.
