The vehicle’s speed is often considered as the most important quantity that must be measured in sports cars and race cars. Speed defines the quality and performance of such cars, and without them, they simply won’t qualify to be called so. The measurement of vehicle speed, however, is not only important for race cars and sports cars. This measurement is also important for passenger vehicles, especially for the high quality ones like Dodge vehicles.

Speed measurement is important for Dodge vehicles because such measure is needed by some vehicle systems for proper operation. Among those systems that make use of speed signals for their proper operation are the antilock braking system and the engine management system. And to provide these systems with the data they need, Dodge vehicles are equipped with Dodge speed sensors.

Dodge speed sensors are electronic devices that sends speed signals to the various vehicle components that needs them. There are two general types of speed sensors used in vehicles today. The first is the wheel speed sensor, and as its name implies, it is used to measure the rotational speed of a wheel on the vehicle. Wheel speed sensors transmit the data they obtain to the antilock braking system (ABS) management computer, which in turn processes this information so that the system would know whether the wheels are locking or not.

The other type of vehicle speed sensor is the engine speed sensor. Unlike the wheel speed sensor that is installed near one of the wheels, the engine speed sensor is mounted on the engine’s crankshaft. The main function of this speed sensor is to record the rate at which the crankshaft is spinning. And instead of the ABS management computer, the data obtained by this sensor is delivered to the engine management computer, which in turn would modify engine functions and initiate diagnostic routines based on the speed signal. Some Dodge vehicles equipped with ABS would no longer make use of an engine speed sensor. Instead, the engine management computer would just get the speed signal from the wheel speed sensor through the ABS management computer.
