Weary of all those noises that come inside your
Dodge each time you use it for transportation? Well you don’t have to
bear all of those noises. There are a lot of products available in the
market today that can help reduce vehicle noise, and finding the best
product for your problem lies on determining where the noise is coming
from. If the noise comes from the exhaust system, then installing a new
muffler should be able to keep it quiet. But if road noise and the
rattling of your vehicle’s loose panels are causing the problem, then
installing a Dodge sound deadener should be the best solution.
Sound deadener is actually a general term for an assortment of products
used to control noise that emanates from or passes through the body
panels of the vehicle. There are three basic types of sound deadeners:
the sound damper, the sound absorber and the sound barrier. A fourth
type of sound deadener also exists, the composite sound deadener,
although it is basically just a combination of any two of the three
basic types previously mentioned.
A sound damper is the most common type of sound deadener used in
vehicles today. It reduces noise by adding mass to the body panels,
thus reducing panel resonance and absorbing structural vibration. Most
Dodge sound dampers available in the market today are spray-on or
brush-on products, although they may also come in the form of a thin
matting.
Sound absorbers are typically thicker than the matting-type sound
damper and are made up of open/closed cell foams that helps absorb
airborne sound waves. The thickest among the three, however, is the
sound barrier, which forms a wall to block airborne noise from passing
through the panels of the vehicle. If any two of these three sound
deadening materials are combined in a single product, the resulting
product is the composite sound deadener. Composite sound deadeners are
sometimes favored over the other basic types because the combination of
two sound deadening materials makes them control noise better.
