Dodge Magnum
The Dodge Magnum, as we know it today, is a large car, specifically a
station wagon, that has just been introduced to the automobile world a
year ago. But your father, or your uncle perhaps, may dispute this and
say that the Dodge Magnum existed way back in the late 1970s.
Similarly, the Mexicans and the Brazilians also have their story to
tell, for in the late 1970s and the 1980s, two different cars named as
the Dodge Magnum were sold separately in these two countries.
The Dodge Magnum nameplate was first used in the US for a
large vehicle manufactured from 1978 up to 1979. It was a mid-size
vehicle, although it looks large enough to be considered as a full-size
one, especially when compared to most of today's small and compact
import cars. Upon introduction, the Dodge Magnum took the form of a
hardtop coupe available in two trim levels, the Magnum XE and the
Magnum XS. The Dodge Magnum of the late 1970s is considered by many as
the last large car manufactured by Dodge, and also the last one having
the muscle car look, thus ending a period in the history of Dodge
vehicles.
In Brazil, the Dodge Magnum nameplate was used from 1979 to
1981 to name a Brazilian version of the Plymouth Valiant/Dodge Dart. In
Mexico, the name was used from 1983 until 1990 but was used instead to
name a K car.
Today, we know the Dodge Magnum as a station wagon that
replaced the large Dodge Intrepid sedan for the 2005 model year. Upon
introduction, the Dodge Magnum was available in three trim levels with
three engine options. The base SE trim is equipped with a 190-hp
2.7-liter V6 engine while the mid-level SXT is equipped with a 250-hp
3.5-liter V6 engine. The top-level RT trim is equipped with Chrysler's
new engine, the 340-hp 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine. All are rear-wheel
drive machines and, with the exception of SE, available in an all-wheel
drive configuration.
With a lot of different vehicles bearing the same name,
purchasing a Dodge Magnum part through your local auto part provider or
through the Internet may cause much confusion. It is therefore
important that you state the particular year model of your Dodge Magnum
whenever you are asking for Dodge Magnum parts.
