Dodge Desoto

Many of you may be all quite familiar of the humble beginnings of Dodge. To provide you with a little overview, here it is. Basically, the Dodge brothers Horace Elgin and John Francis started out with just a plain and small business that catered for a while to bicycle machines in Detroit, Michigan. It was not until Henry Ford sought for their help in starting his own automobile business that the Dodge brothers ventured into carmaking.
Failures and successes have confronted the them but then they have gained what they aimed for when a number of Dodge cars became a commercial hit. The production had been stopped and had resumed after World War I. In 1925, the Dodge Brothers Company was purchased by Dillon, Read and Company and was again sold in July 31, 1928 and this time to Chrysler Corporation.
With a lot of Dodge car models in line, Dodge Desoto is just one of them. The name of this car model started out as Dodge De Soto and was later on changed into Dodge Desoto, merging all of the syllables comprising the name. Dodge Desoto is in fact the automobile brand which had been based in the United States of America and was marketed by Chrysler Corporation from 1928 until 1960.
It was Walter P. Chrysler himself who founded the De Soto make on August 4, 1928. There is one familiar sound that vibrates with the name. And you may be right if you say that it is of Spanish origin. Yes, the name was taken from the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto.
During the early years back in the 1928s, many of Chrysler’s archrivals stood out. Among them are Oldsmobile, Nash, and Pontiac. The Dodge De Soto make was primarily aimed to be counted to outsell its rivals in a middle-price class. For quite a number of years, Dodge De Soto performed well in sales but soon demised after 1957. Then eventually, De Soto lost its place in the market sales in the late 1950s. Dodge De Soto automobiles ceased in production on November 30, 1960 with the models Firedome, Firesweep, and Fireflite.
