Dodge cars have always been known for their dependability. They are
well-loved and respected in the industry due to the excellent
engineering that each Dodge vehicle employ. Dodge has been in the
industry for more than a century now and is continuously striving to
provide the car enthusiasts with units that sport superb craftsmanship
and unmatched reliability. Over the years, Dodge has successfully
manufactured superb cars, minivans, pickup trucks, vans and sport
utility vehicles. To name a few are Dodge Neon, Dodge Stratus, Dodge
Durango, Dodge Charger, Dodge Caravan, Dodge Dakota, Dodge Ram truck
and Dodge Viper.
Also included in Dodge’s list of vehicles is the Dodge Colt. It is a
compact car marketed by Dodge from 1970 to 1994 model years. Dodge
Colt, together with the Plymouth Champ and Plymouth Colt were known as
captive imports from Mitsubishi Motors. The Dodge Colt and other like
vehicles were well used in rallying not just in the United States but
also in many countries abroad. Outperforming other cars in its class,
the Colt was the most commonly used, coming out in many events all
through the 1970s and 1980s. In fact, a Colt ended up in third place in
the first ever Sno*Drift rally in 1973. This achievement has been
carried out the following year as well as in 1982 model year.
In 1989, Dodge Colt was offered in three trim levels – the
base, mid-level GL and GT. The Dodge Colt base two-door models were
powered by a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder, generating 81 horsepower and mated
with 4-speed manual gearbox. The Colt GTS received a 1.6-liter power
house producing 113-horsepower and teamed with standard 5-speed
transmission. Largely unchanged for several years, the 4-door Colt DL
station wagon is motorized by a bigger, 87-horsepower engine and could
now be outfitted with 4-wheel drive.
