Dodge Aries

Since 1914, Dodge Brother Motor Vehicle Company was already establishing its name in the auto industry. But before the Dodge brothers created their own automobile company, they have already been playing roles in the industry as manufacturer of bearings and other auto parts. They also took part in the founding of the Ford Motor Company. The first Dodge model appeared in November 1914 as the 1915 Dodge model. It was a great start for the Dodge brothers as their first model was able to surpass Ford's famous Model T in terms of performance, exterior and interior features.

Throughout the century, Dodge created many other good-featured and dependable cars, trucks and other vehicles. In fact, the term "dependability" was coined to describe a Dodge vehicle. One of Dodge's most successful cars was the Dodge Aries made from 1981 to 1989. They were manufactured in Newark, Delaware; Detroit, Michigan and in Toluca, Mexico. The first Dodge Aries were equipped with a 2.2L Chrysler K engine. An optional Mitsubishi 2.6L engine was also offered. In time with the 1985 revamp of the Dodge Aries, the optional Mitsubishi 2.6L engine was replaced by the 2.5L version of the Chrysler K engine.

Dodge Aries mainly shared features with Plymouth Reliant, also by Chrysler Corporation. Both Chrysler cars used the K platform, known for being the most frequently shared auto platform. The two also shared many other features and components, thus they were regarded as "twins." It was said that the Dodge Aries and Plymouth Reliant were the main reasons why Chrysler was able to recover from its bankruptcy back in the 70s. The two were launched to replace the slow-selling Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volaré, respectively. They were instantly successful. They were Motor Trend's Car of the Year for 1981, their first year in the auto market.
