Most Americans don't know what Daihatsu Charade is and how does it
looks like. Maybe they know that Daihatsu is a producer of automobiles,

Charade has been known in Japan since 1977 and in other foreign markets

The Daihatsu Charade was manufactured by Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. from
1997 model year to the present. This subcompact car is released in four
generations. Popularly known as the G10, the first-generation Daihatsu
Charade, arrived in 1977. It was offered in 3-door or 5-door hatchback
and was motorized by a 993 cc 3-cylinder engine generating 50
horsepower. The second generation Daihatsu Charade which was introduced
in 1983 model year and was called G11. Models from this generation
received different variations of the 3-cylinder 1.0 L engine, plus, for
the very first time, a turbocharged alternative producing 68 horsepower
and a Diesel version. Another feature that was used by Daihatsu for the
first time is the 5-speed manual transmission.
The third generation Daihatsu Charade was composed of the G100 series.
Unveiled in 1987, these Charades were the ones sold in the US market
for four years (1988-1992). But due to poor sales, the company
permanently withdrew from the US automotive market. In 1994, the fourth
generation Daihatsu Charade was released. It is available in hatchback
and sedan body styles.
