Crossmember
Lucky thing cars and trucks are around to take us wherever we want
may it be on ordinary highways or isolated hills and mountains. With
cars around, adventures and trips are easy no matter where it may be or
what type of terrain the roads may be. However rocky trails can also
cause pressure and failures on the car's crossmember. Its main purpose
is to provide greater ground clearance to achieve controlled and smooth
driving especially when going through hard and extreme trails. The
stock transfer case crossmember secures and protect the transfer case
against bumps and heavy road obstructions that can abuse its efficiency
and function.
It is mounted under the truck slightly sticking
out to perform its job. Car crossmembers can be readily bought in the
market and can also be personally made to achieve a customized look and
function. Ready made crossmembers are offered in different styles which
can also be adopted by personally crafted crossmembers. It is widely
available in any car part market both on-line and off-line. Some
aftermarket crossmember products can be painted to have added color or
simply to jive with the color tone of the vehicle.
Custom
crossmember on the other hand can be easily done in various manners. It
must provide greater ground clearance by making the bottom thinner,
about 2.5 inches will do, by using a molded sheet metal or by moving
the transfer to a higher location in relation to the drive-line angles
of the car.
The vehicle's front drive line must be removed to
install new crossmember may it be an aftermarket car part or a custom
car part. New crossmembers does not have ay bolt on so be careful not
to loose the stock bolts that secure the old ones. Installation and
removal of crossmember is sweat free and does not require any
extraordinary tools.
