Chrysler Saratoga
It is often the practice of many automobile manufacturing companies to
revive the name of a popular classic vehicle to name a new one that
sports similar characteristics. And more often than not, the new model
becomes a bestseller, probably because of the anticipation felt by
those who used to love the older vehicle model of the same name. This
case, however, did not apply to the Chrysler Saratoga. The name of the
vehicle was used first in the 1950s and then in the early 1990s, but
neither of the two vehicles made it big. In fact, the Chrysler Saratoga
name is hardly heard from many vehicle enthusiasts today.
The classic Chrysler Saratoga was introduced by Chrysler in
the 1950s and was sold until the early 1960s. It was a full-size
vehicle and was offered as a mid-range model together with similarly
styled vehicles like the Chrysler Windsor and New Yorker. For most year
models, the Chrysler Saratoga was available in 4-door hardtop coupe,
2-door hardtop coupe, and 4-door sedan body styles. The car was
equipped with a 383 cid V8 engine that outputs 325 horsepower delivered
to its wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission.
In 1989, Chrysler revived the name of the Chrysler Saratoga,
but this time the vehicle was not sold in the U.S. The 1989 Chrysler
Saratoga was only sold in Europe. It was basically identical to the
Chrysler LeBaron and other Chrysler vehicles sold in the U.S. that used
the Chrysler extended-K platform. It was available in three trim
levels: S, SE, and LE; and was equipped with either a 2.5-liter or
3.5-liter displacement engines. The model was sold in Europe only until
the 1995 model year.
The Chrysler Saratoga name has been used by Chrysler twice but
it never became popular. The first Chrysler Saratoga vehicle was
probably drowned by the popularity of its more popular siblings while
the second was simply unknown because it was never sold in the U.S.
Because of this, one must expect that finding Chrysler Saratoga parts
would be a bit difficult. The search for these parts, however, would
become easier if one starts looking for them through the Internet.
