During the time of the Chrysler Corporation as an independent automobile manufacturer,
it was able to produce some of the most exciting, luxurious and remarkable vehicle
models in the automotive industry. One of which is the Chrysler Fifth Avenue,
and along with some models such as the Chrysler 300, Concord, Cordoba, Conquest,
Voyager, Imperial, Saratoga, Town & Country, Winsor and many others form the
Chrysler Corporation vehicle lineup.
The Chrysler Fifth Avenue had its production within the years of 1979 until 1993.
It turned out to be among Chrysler's largest models all along that period. The
Fifth Avenue was only a specially modified Chrysler New Yorker sedan which replaced
the name Imperial in the years 1976 until 1980. During its first three years of
production, the Fifth Avenue used a distinctively designed body and leather interior
with some additional body color options. After some time, with the Fifth Avenue
still being available, the New Yorker was downsized but remained to be a rear
wheel drive and equipped with V8 engine platform.
And in 1983, the Fifth Avenue finally had its way independent of the New Yorker.
It had its own badge and became a model in its own right. The New Yorker on the
other hand was again downsized but was converted into a front wheel drive with
in-line 4 and turbo option package. The story ended for the Chrysler New Yorker
but the Fifth Avenue was continuously produced for six long years until the Chrysler
Corporation came up with the 2004 Chrysler 300 model and took the features of
having a V8 engine as a rear-wheel drive Chrysler. Several safety features together
with some comfort and convenience amenities and upgraded power supply were integrated
with the Fifth Avenue such as a driver's side airbag, 5.2-liter V8 engine and
button-tufted, soft-cushioned seats with special covers.
