Chrysler Conquest
The sports car at its best. This is how to
describe the Chrysler Conquest. But this promise of the vehicle was not
achieved as it was one of the short lived models produced by Chrysler.
It was released in 1987 and was pulled out from the production line in
1889.
The Chrysler Conquest is actually a re-badged
Mitsubishi Starion. Meaning, the vehicle is sold in the Uniter States
as Chrysler Conquest and Mitsubishi Starion in other countries. The
badge Conquest was also used by Dodge and Plymouth, two other
DaimlerChrysler companies which also used other Chrysler models as
brand names. The Mitsubishi Starion was launched in the 1982. The two
door sports car was powered by turbocharged four cylinder engine in
rear wheel drive.
As the basis of the future Conquest, the
Mitsubishi Starion was one of the most amazing sports car during that
period for its performance and drive power. It was released
simultaneously in Japan with other great sports car like the Grand
Tourer, Nissan 300ZX Turbo, Mazda RX-7 Turbo and Toyota Supra Turbo.
What separated the Starior from its competitors was its turbocharged
engine.
The mid life of the Mitsubishi Starior gave birth to the Chrysler
Conquest which lasted for two years. The Conquest eventually was
replaced by the Eagle Talon and the Plymouth Laser. The Starior on the
other hand lasted up to 1990 when it was replaced by the more popular
Mitsubishi Eclipse. The Dodge Stealth also was the product of the
Chrysler Conquest.
