Chevy Camaro

Chevy Camaro In the 1960s and 70s, muscle cars were very popular. They are high-performance mid-size autos equipped with large and powerful engines. Pony cars were later made as affordable alternatives to muscle cars. By American standards, Pony cars were high performance vehicles built on compact passenger car chassis. Among the famous and most enduring American pony cars is the Chevrolet Camaro, produced from 1967 until 2002. Chevrolet Camaro was launched as General Motors' competitor against the first and popular sports muscle car, the Ford Mustang.

The first Camaro models shared mechanical features with the 1968 Chevrolet Nova, both had unibody construction. This model was offered in two body styles, a coupe and a convertible; however, it was offered in almost 80 factory and 40 dealer options. The main three packages offered were the RS, SS and Z28. Highlights of the RS package include the RS badging, hidden headlight and blacked out grill. It also got different taillights and interior trims. The SS package featured a 5.7 L V8 engine and an available L35 396 in3 engine, non-functional air inlets on the hood, special striping and black out grill.

Most of the buyers did not know about the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 option because it was not widely publicized in the sales literature. To get this package, you must have purchased a base Camaro model and add front disc brakes, power steering, and Muncie 4-speed transmission. Also, a distinct 302 in3 small block engine, which is specially designed for racing, upgraded suspension and racing stripes on the hood were offered in this package.

Second generation of the Chevrolet Camaro debuted in 1970. This was the most enduring Chevrolet Camaro design; unfortunately, it bore the brunt of the GM's company problems. Production was disrupted and the 1100 1970-1/2 Chevrolet Camaros were scrapped because they did not meet bumper standards. The third generation Camaro was out in 1982, featuring a fuel injection, four-speed automatic transmission and other enhancements. The fourth and the last generation was introduced in 1993 and lasted until 2001.
