With one look at the Chevrolet Astro, one can definitely say that it's
a vehicle like no other, except of course for its corporate twin, the
GMC Safari. For one, the Chevy Astro and GMC Safari are the only
existing truck-based passenger minivans in the vehicle market today.
Chevrolet Astro parts are designed to perform as if it were made for a
truck. The design of the Chevy Astro also dates back to the late 1980s.
The Astro has actually never received a change in style and design ever
since it was introduced in the 1980s.
The Chevrolet Astro is a truck-based passenger minivan
introduced by General Motors in 1985 and is expected to be offered in
the company's vehicle line-up until the 2005 model year. Together with
the similar GMC Safari, the Astro was introduced to compete with the
Dodge Caravan/Plymouth Voyager twin, Chrysler's front wheel drive
minivan offering in the 1980s.
Originally, the Chevrolet Astro was available only in
rear-wheel drive forms and in a 5-passenger seating setup. In 1990,
however, a dedicated four-wheel drive option became available and later
in 1995, the 8-passenger seating capacity setup became standard. In its
present form, the Chevrolet Astro is available in either rear-wheel
drive or all-wheel drive setup. Both versions of the minivan are
equipped with a 4.3-liter V6 engine that runs with up to 190 hp of
engine power and travels at a rate of 16 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on
the highway. Also available today is a 2-seater cargo van variety of
the Chevrolet Astro.
The greatest advantage of the Chevy Astro is probably its
truck-like qualities. In a truck's body, the Chevrolet Astro can haul
and tow just about anything and can traverse on-road and off-road
trails alike. Surprisingly, its weaknesses are also brought by its
truck-like performance. Many people complain that the Chevy Astro has a
bumpy ride and doors that are too high to provide a convenient entrance
and exit.
You may like it or not, but the Chevy Astro is really one of a
kind. Equally, Chevrolet Astro parts are also one of a kind, designed
specifically for the truck-like performance of the Chevy Astro. Should
you want your Astro to have a gentler and a more minivan-like ride
quality, you can always replace its stock parts with aftermarket and
custom Chevy Astro vehicle parts.
