Alternators are replacement for the old
generators. Compared with the former, an alternator has greater output,
lower rpm, more controlled regulators and lesser expense in maintenance
and repair. Modern car makes like Chevrolet are equipped with an

The moving coil of wire in an alternator or rotor, as what it is
called, produces a moving field from the current flowing on the slip
rings while the non-moving coil provides power to be supplied on the

stronger than the old generator. The place of the lousy generator
commutator is taken by the sturdy slip rings. The same is true for the
rotor coils which are now protected by muscular iron shell.

without fear of explosion. The maximum potential of a car alternator
can be unleashed by modifications which can be done by any auto
mechanic. A modified alternator has better advantages over ordinary
alternators. Twice engine speed at 8000 rpm or more, faster
acceleration at low engine rpm and more charging current are just a few
of the advantages.
