engine breathes, the more competent it becomes. And that’s one of the
reasons why BMW valve cover is really imperative. The valve train
components are the ones that let the engine breathe. They are
responsible for allowing the air/fuel mixture into the combustion
chamber at the right time and letting the vehicle’s burned exhaust
gases out. Because of its important task, the valve cover should always
be protected. And that can be done of course by employing a valve
cover.
In your BMW, the valve cover is bolted to protect the valve train,
which is composed of a rocker arm, valve springs, push rods, shifters
and cam, if your vehicle features an overhead cam engine. BMW valve
cover can be removed if you want to adjust the valves of the vehicle.
Valve covers before are made up of metal but in some modern vehicles
today, they are composed of plastic or composite materials. Some valve
cover units feature specialty chrome, billet aluminum and even carbon
fiber materials. This type of valve covers is designed not only to
protect the valve train but also to spice up the engine compartment.
There are even BMW valve covers with logos, flames and other designs
etched into their surface.
The oil in your BMW car is pumped by the pushrods, and will be
dispersed underneath the valve cover to keep the rocker arms
lubricated. In the engine heads, there are several holes located in
different sections to send the oil back down the oil pan. For this
reason, your BMW valve covers need to be oil-tight as they might cause
oil leaks.
If you found out that your BMW valve cover is damaged, have it repaired
and replaced immediately to avoid other problems. But discover first
the material which your BMW valve cover is made of. Those BMW valve
covers that are composed of sheet metal can be straightened once they
bend but those that are made up of cast aluminum can’t anymore be
repaired.
