It’s no secret that innovative engineering and cutting-edge technology are at the core of every BMW vehicle. Every detail of a BMW vehicle is crafted and designed to elevate each moment of the driving experience to a pure pleasure. So, if it doesn’t provide comfort, great driving experience and enhance driving safety, it is not a BMW brand. It is for the reason that every part of a BMW vehicle has its own words to show off.
One of those BMW parts that are made of durable materials to perform its purpose at its best is the BMW oil pan. Oil pans are a major engine cooling system parts. They are bolted to the bottom of a vehicle’s engine and they are usually constructed of thin steel that is shaped into a deeper section to fully perform its function. Oil returns to this pan after circulating right through an engine to provide lubrication, and some cooling effects as well.
Most oil pans are open inside, but high-performance oil pans can feature trap doors and baffles to control the oil during forceful driving and keep it close to the oil pump pickup. At the bottom of the oil pan, there is an oil drain plug which is often made with a magnet connected to it to be able to collect metal fragments from the oil. Some drain plugs contains a disposable washer to prevent leakage which is caused by corrosion or worn threads in the drain hole. These oil drain plug can be usually removed to allow old oil to flow out of the car during an oil exchange. Then after the used oil drains out, the plug is screwed back into the drain hole.
But no matter how tough your BMW oil pans are, they are still subjected to wear and tear for they are just made of a thin sheet metal. You should have the proper maintenance and constant checkup to ensure that your BMW oil pans are always in good shape.
