Weber Performance Parts Weber 2-Barrel Carburetor

Weber carburetors were named after Edoardo Weber who pioneered the use of twin barrel carburetors in the 1920’s. Weber carburetors were originally produced and sold in Italy as part of a conversion kit for Fiats. The two barrels were of different sizes. The smaller barrel was for low speed driving while the larger barrel was for optimizing high-speed driving.

In the 1930s, Weber twin barrel carburetors were mainly used for car racing. Two barrels of the same size were used and were arranged in such a way that each cylinder of the engine has its own carburetor barrel. The modern Weber 2-barrel carburetor evolved from this concept. Eventually, Weber carburetors became standard in the production of cars especially for racing applications on automotive brands such as Albarth, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, Ford, Fiat, Lamborghini, Lotus, Lancia, Maserati, Triumph, Porsche, and Volkswagen.

In the US, Weber carburetors are manufactured for both street vehicles and off-road racing vehicles. Weber carburetors are typically marketed as part of the Weber conversion kit package that include the carburetors, intake manifold, throttle linkage, air filter and the installation hardware. Presently, the carburetor is mostly rendered obsolete by fuel injection. Nonetheless, the Weber carburetors are still extensively used in classic and historic racing. Weber carburetors are also used as high quality replacements for problematic OE carburetors. Generally, a carburetor is a device that mixes the fuel and air at the proper ratio or proportion then vaporizes this mixture to be combusted in the engine cylinders. It assures the balance between the fuel and air so that pollution will be minimized and horsepower can be optimized. Carburetors, however, are now virtually replaced by fuel injection. When purchasing a new set of carburetors, you should always consider the quality of the product before considering the price. You might end up spending more money if you have chosen the wrong product.
