When it comes to automotive parts, the term “kit” refers to specific set of components rather than the instruments used in installing these components. A kit may either be an unimportant aftermarket accessory or an essential automotive component. The Skyjacker axle U-bolt kit is an essential aftermarket automotive component that is utilized in trucks to provide the force required to clamp the leaf spring and associated components firmly together. These associated components of the leaf spring that the U-bolt holds together include the top plate, the bottom plate, the axle seat and the axle itself.

A complete U-bolt kit is comprised of two U-bolts and deep nuts. As the name suggests, U-bolt is a bolt that is shaped like the letter U. However, there are three basic types of U-bolts utilized in clamping the leaf springs. The first type of U-bolt is the round bend which has smooth and curved bends.

The second type of U-bolt is the semi-round bend which has smooth external curved bend but square internal bend. Finally, the third type of U-bolt is the square bend which has square external and internal bend. If the U-bolt is properly installed, it will eliminate any flexing of the leaf spring in the area between the U-bolts. This is very important owing to the fact that the center bolt in each leaf spring serves as the center of stress where the force of vibration is concentrated. If the U-bolts are not tightly secured, the leaf springs will rapidly break. The forces acting on the center bolt are greatly reduced because of the firm clamping of the springs by the U-bolt to the axle seat.
