Sachs Clutch Disc
Every Sachs clutch disc is consisting of metal disc covered with a frictional facing similar to brake shoes or pads. Its lining is either made of a woven or molded non-organic material containing particles of soft metal such as aluminum or brass. This enhances the strength of the lining and a series of radial grooves in the lining’s face improves the grip between the flywheel and the disc. In the center of the disc is a splined hub that mates with transmission’s input shaft; hence, it provides a direct mechanical coupling between the two.
Also, located between the clutch hub and lining is a group of torsional springs that dampens the driveline and vibration. Generally, the clutch disc is found between the flywheel and pressure plate. It is the function of your clutch disc to transmit engine torque directly to the input shaft of the transmission. When it is coupled with the pressure plate and flywheel, it makes and breaks the flow of power from the engine to the transmission.
Now, because pressure is applied to the clutch disc and released continuously all throughout the course of normal driving, the clutch disc lining will wear over time making it a normal wear item. One common symptom for worm clutch is the clutch chatter. This symptom however could also be caused by oil leaking from the engine onto the clutch assembly, a poor flywheel surface, damaged pressure plate release levers, a sprung clutch disc hub and improper alignment between the engine and transmission. Clutch slippage is another common clutch problem. A variety of factors can contribute to the occurrence of this condition. These are the damage to pressure plate, worn, binding or misadjusted linkage, incorrect clutch components, and even normal wear. The least common symptom is the dragging clutch which is just the opposite of slippage. This condition occurs when the clutch doesn’t release at all or releases only partially. Note that, it is important to replace your damaged clutch components to come smooth vehicle operation and control.
