The power rack and pinion steering systems are hydraulic and mechanical systems containing an important piston and rack unit. An internal rotary valve guides the power steering fluid flow and manages the pressure to decrease steering exertion. When the steering wheel changes direction, resistance is made by means of the vehicle's weight and tire/road friction then triggers the torsion bar present in the rotary valve to redirect. This alters the position of the valve sleeve and spool, hence guiding fluid under pressure to the correct end of the power cylinder. The steering gear other than the rack must be inspected for leaks, slackness, wear, and wobbly bushings and bolts. Indications of damaged steering gear include loss of fluid and wandering. If in case your vehicle displays any of said indications, have it checked by a professional technician. If he advises you to have it changed, look for replacements right away and have it replaced.
