Pro Comp Axle U-bolt kit has numerous features. It consists of high strength steel for its durability. It is also composed of low alloy. Hi-nuts and extra thick washers are also included in the kit.

A U-bolt is a bolt shaped like the letter U which is fitted with threads and a nut at each end. U-bolt serves as the clamping force needed in holding the springs to the axle. Some vehicles like Camaro/Firebird use T-bolts to provide clamping force, U-bolts are proven to be the easiest and the most economical and reliable way of attaching springs to an axle. Whenever there are spring replacements and repair, U-bolts should also be replaced.

The threads on most U-bolts are not cut but are rolled. When the U-bolts are tightened, the threads will be deformed by the nuts. Reusing old U-bolts can never achieve proper torque or clamping force. Holding a twisting and bouncing axle securely to a leaf spring is also the job of a U-bolt. As you drive, powerful forces would try to separate your car’s spring from its axle seat. Stress factors obtained from uneven roadways, torque from engine and braking forces would contribute to stretch the steel of the U-bolt. However, modern U-bolts are torque specific, which means that they get tightened to a torque value which sets a proper initial tension on the bolt. If the axle will try to twist away from the leaf spring, the U-bolt will stretch up to its limit of elasticity and will return to its original position without damage. The weakest part of any spring leaf is located at the hole where the center bolt goes through the leaves. Immobile spring could be accounted to correctly torqued U-bolts.
