Painless Performance Parts Painless Ignition Coil

Painless has been known for its trademark automotive electrical wiring systems. However, the brand has also started broadening its product base to include other aftermarket performance accessories such as the Painless Ignition Coil. An ignition coil, sometimes known as a spark coil, is an induction coil in an automobile’s ignition system which can transform a storage battery’s 12 volts to the thousand of volts needed to spark the spark plugs. In modern applications, the distributor is omitted and the ignition is instead electronically-controlled.

Much smaller coils are used with one coil for each spark plug or one coil serving two spark plugs. These coils may be remote mounted or they may be placed on top of the spark plug. When one coil serves two spark plugs, it is through the wasted spark system. In this particular arrangement, the coil generates two sparks per cycle to both cylinders.

The fuel in the cylinder that is nearing the end of its compression stroke is ignited, whereas the spark in its companion that is nearing the end of its exhaust stroke has no effect. The wasted spark system is more reliable than a single coil system with the distributor and much cheaper than the coil-on plug. Where the coils are remote mounted, they may be all contained in a single molded block with multiple high tension terminals. This is commonly called the coil pack. The Painless Ignition Coil, once installed in your vehicle, will deliver your ride’s ignition requirements. This Painless product can help generate combustion flame that is critical in helping meet engine performance and fuel economy objectives.
