The brake disc is the device used in automobiles for slowing or stopping the rotation of the wheel. A brake disc or rotor is usually made and crafted using cast iron or ceramic and is connected to the wheel or to the axle. To stop the wheel, friction material in the form of brake pads is forced mechanically, hydraulically, pneumatically, or electromagnetically against both sides of the disc. The friction causes the disc and the attached wheel to slow down or stop.

Brake discs are typically damaged in one of three ways: warping, scarring, and cracking. And if you try machining the discs to correct any problem, this can only lead to their reduced life. It is usually recommended and much cheaper just to replace the damaged discs instead of repairing the said parts. The warping of the brake disc is caused by excessive heat, which softens the metal and allows it to be reshaped.

The main causes of overheating are: undersized/over machined brake discs, excessive braking, riding the brakes, or a stuck brake pad. Cracking, on the other hand, is mostly limited among drilled discs, which get small cracks around the outside edges of the drilled holes near the edge of the disc due to the rotor’s uneven rate of expansion in severe duty environments. Manufacturers that use drilled rotors as original equipment manufacturer components do so for two reasons: looks and function. Because of the sensitive role that the brake disc accomplishes for your vehicle, it is just right for you to procure only the most reliable part for a reliable braking at all times, much like the Ford Racing Brake Disc. The Ford Racing Brake Disc features a high performance braking and an increased cooling surface area. The size of the rotors will depend on the vehicle that you are using, so better check with your manual or your trusted technician.
