Flexalite Performance Parts Flexalite Electric Cooling Fan

There are two different types of cooling fan that can be used in the cooling system. Old cars generally use belt-driven, mechanical fans with the help of the engine to turn them. At present, these fans are actually still used in some cars and light trucks. Here, a temperature-sensitive fan clutch is employed allowing the fan to disengage and engage according to different operating conditions.

Electric cooling fans, however, came to life because of the dire need to reduce weight but still increasing fuel economy. Most modern cars use electric cooling fans controlled by the same computer that controls the engine. Flex-a-lite has been in the industry for over 36 years and has produced high performance belt-driven and electric engine cooling fans, engine and transmission oil coolers, and other accessories. Its Flex-a-lite Electric cooling fan provides better cooling than the regular stock fans.

This product also increases fuel mileage and performance and is used where the space is at premium. It also has air conditioning relay and adjustable thermostat and provides adequate circulation. You must remember that a fan that does not provide sufficient circulation usually causes overheating and poor air conditioning operation. The cooling fan can be found on either side of the radiator and may either be operated by an electric motor or a fan clutch which is driven by a water pump belt. It circulates air through the radiator allowing it to release engine heat into the surrounding air. With the introduction of fan clutches and electric cooling fans, fans have become more efficient. Know that a fan that stays engaged at all times can cause poor fuel economy, unwanted noise and may run the battery dead. You have to inspect first the area around the radiator to make sure if it is free of leaves and debris. As to cars with mechanical cooling fan check, it is important to check the manual first to know what fuses may be involved in controlling the fan. Or if you think there is a big problem with your car’s fan, it is better to seek the advice and service of a qualified mechanic.
