Manifolds that are made from aluminum can become extremely hot if it is positioned on top of the exhaust header. Nevertheless, there is a way to protect the manifold from the extreme heat. A heat shield can be used to protect the aluminum manifold from the heat of the header. Too much heat can damage the manifold system and the painted plastic components of the car. Meanwhile, another manifold which is the exhaust manifold, are generally made from simple cast iron units which collect engine exhaust and deliver it to the exhaust pipe. When greater performance is needed, this restrictive tube is often replaced with individual headers which are tuned for low restriction and improved performance.
