B&M Torque Converter
Vehicles with automatic transmission have no clutch which disconnects the transmission from the engine. Rather, these vehicle use a device called the torque converter. And, the widely use torque converter by many vehicle owners is the B&M torque converter. This is a type of fluid coupling that allows the engine to be able to spin somewhat independently of the transmission.
If your engine is turning slowly like when your vehicle is idling at a stoplight, the amount of torque passed through the B&M torque converter is quite small. That is why keeping your vehicle still requires a light pressure on the brake pedal. If you are to step onto the gas pedal while your vehicle is stopped, you would have to press harder onto the brake to be able to keep your vehicle from moving. This is because when you step onto the gas, your engine speeds up and pumps more fluid into the torque converter, thus causing more torque to be transmitted to your wheels.
There are generally three application types of B&M torque converter, racing converter, street converter, and traveler converter. The racing converter features a new precision alloy steel impeller hub that is ground heated and a super duty enclosed bearings between a stator and impeller. It also has super duty dual race bearings between a stator and turbine, and turbine and cover, an all quick 60 units fully furnace brazed turbine having extra thick tacking for strength, and CNC machined 4130 chrome alloy steels turbine with special bearing pilot. Plus, an extreme reinforced cover with a super duty tri-bridge drives lugs. The street converter has 4 different series, Hole Shot Series, Nitrous Hole Shot Series, Task Master Series, and Tork Master Series. The Hole Shot Series is recommended for Pro Street, Serious Street Machines, and Steer Rods. The Nitrous Hole Shot Series is recommended for Steer Rod, Pro Street and Street Machines with Plate Type Nitrous Systems. The Task Master Series is recommended for most diesel light truck applications. And the Tork Master Series is recommended for those mild performance applications and Street Rods.
