A filter in the vehicles fuel line, which screens out dirt and rust particles from the fuel, is the fuel filter. It is the fuel system's main line of defense against the elements that can flake off the inside of the vehicle's fuel tank. Found on most internal combustion engine, the fuel filter serves an important role in the modern, tight tolerance engine fuel systems.
